If you’ve started a workout program, it’s likely because you want to get fitter and leaner. Perhaps you’re looking forward to a certain social event and want to look your best, or maybe you’ve got a muffin top you want to get rid of.
Whatever your motivation for losing weight is, it can be frustrating to watch the number on the scale stay in the same place.
The truth is, you may not be getting the most out of your workout as you should be. If you’ve been putting in what you feel is a significant amount of work but aren’t seeing any results, it may have something to do with one of the following reasons.
If you’re getting on the treadmill or elliptical trainer and hardly breaking a sweat, then you probably won’t see dramatic results. When you work out, you should build up your endurance until you are able to reach as high intensity as possible.
A general rule of thumb is to work out hard enough that it’s difficult to talk without gasping for breath.
Eating Too Many Carbs
While carbs aren’t in and of themselves evil, they are better when consumed in moderation. Too many carbs are linked to obesity and belly fat.
If you’re eating a considerable amount of carbs and your workouts aren’t high intensity, then you’ll hang on to all those calories rather than burning them.
Lifting Too Light
If you’re looking to build muscle and bulk your body, then you’ll need to lift weights. Lifting heavy is a critical part of gaining muscle mass. Although light repetitive lifting may tone your muscles, you won’t see any amount of bulk.
Therefore, increase the weight when you lift. Gradually lift more and more until you start to see results.
Not Lifting To Failure
Rather than doing three sets as most people do, consider lifting to failure. That means lifting the maximum amount that your body can handle one or two times. You’ll still reap the same benefits in less amount of time. However, it’s important to remember that maintaining proper form is critical!
Not Choosing a Workout You Enjoy
Do you hate your workout and find excuses for not having to go? Are you putting in a quarter of the effort because you don’t actually enjoy what you’re doing? This may be playing a role in why you aren’t seeing results. The more that you enjoy your workout, the more committed you’ll be!
Reaching your fitness goals isn’t as easy as snapping your fingers. It will take work and dedication, and above all, time. Some people see results fairly quickly, while others may take longer.
However, if you consistently exercise and eat a healthful diet for at least several months, you will see your body transform!
